Zohran Mamdani Promises a 'Dawn' for NYC in First Address
During an inauguration day in the mayor's office, Zohran Mamdani pledged to “reinvent” America's largest city, declaring “a fresh chapter” and an ambitious start to his tenure.
A Historic Figure
The young political star, who was a relatively obscure state assemblyman, has become the city's first mayor of South Asian descent. He also made history by being the first to be sworn in using the Islamic holy text.
“A moment like this comes rarely and even more uncommon is it that the people themselves whose hold the levers of change,” Mamdani stated.
Rejecting suggestions to be modest, the mayor declared: “I will do no such thing. The only expectation I seek to reset is that of modest goals. Beginning today we will lead boldly and broadly.”
Steering by Democratic Socialist Ideals
